Cooking Class in Sioux City, Iowa

In our first cooking class, we will be focusing on the flavors and techniques of Sioux City, Iowa. Known for its Midwestern charm and farm-to-table cuisine, Sioux City offers a unique blend of hearty comfort food and fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

We will start off with a classic dish from the region, the Iowa Maid-Rite. This loose meat sandwich features seasoned ground beef served on a soft bun with all the fixings. We will also be making a side of homemade potato chips, seasoned with a special blend of spices.

Next, we will be preparing a dish inspired by the Native American heritage of the area. The Three Sisters Stew is a hearty stew made with beans, corn, and squash, three key crops traditionally grown by Native Americans in the region. We will be using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to make this comforting and nutritious stew.

To end the class on a sweet note, we will be making a classic Iowa dessert, Maytag Blue Cheese Ice Cream. This unique ice cream features the bold flavor of Maytag blue cheese, a dairy product that has been produced in Iowa for over a century. Paired with a sweet honey drizzle, this dessert is the perfect way to end a meal.

Our second cooking class will take us to Kansas City, Missouri, where we will be exploring the flavors and techniques of barbecue. Known as the "Barbecue Capital of the World," Kansas City is home to some of the most iconic barbecue dishes in the United States.

We will start off with a classic Kansas City barbecue dish, burnt ends. These savory and smoky bites of beef brisket are a local favorite and are sure to become a staple in your own kitchen. We will also be making a tangy and sweet barbecue sauce to accompany the burnt ends.

Next, we will be exploring the world of smoked meats with a dish of smoked pork ribs. We will be using a dry rub of spices to season the ribs before smoking them low and slow over hickory wood until they are fall-off-the-bone tender.

To end the class on a sweet note, we will be making a dessert inspired by the flavors of Kansas City. The Brownie Bite Trifle is a decadent dessert featuring layers of brownie pieces, whipped cream, and chocolate ganache. Simple yet elegant, this dessert is the perfect way to show off your newfound barbecue prowess.
